| Comments: | Thank you for your wonderful website. My Grandfather was Sylvester J. Cotter, his father William Cotter of Breenymore born 1858/1859, married Julia Creedon 1889/1890. They had three children, Margaret Mary Cotter (1891), Sylvester Joseph Cotter (1893), Julia Shiela Cotter (1896). His wife passed April 2, 1896 from childbirth. He remarried to Minnie Casey, they bore two sons Michael Cotter and William Cotter. Michael became a physician, lived in England, William remained on the land of 161 acres and farmed. He passed in the 1980's. Anyone with any information on this Cotter family, please email me. |

| Comments: | During ww1 over 300 men from Derry and Donegal trained for a year in the area. One of them is buried down there. I wrote to ma about them and some related humourous stories of the time. Once they were woken by cries of murder at the camp in Kilworth and rushed to a local house that was on fire and the husband and wife having a real old domestic. The camp commander during st pats day 1915 put all the pubs out of bounds so the men made their own hooch! I wondered did any of these men from Derry marry a local? great site. |

| Comments: | I am wondering why you have Cotter headstones. MY granda came from Bantry his name was Sylvester Joseph Cotter. His father was Liam[William}{MacOiter} Cotter. He was very involved in the Irish language resurge.He had 3 children with his first wife and 2 with the second. The first children emmigrated under various circumstances. MY branch came to San Francisco where Sylvester married Hannah Casey in 1916.But alas what became of those left I don't know. Thanks for your lovely site. Of interest my daughter learned Gaelic and did so well she taught it to many students, She is an artist and has a web site Miriam Ellis.She has sold many of her paintings of Irish people and landscapes. The spirit of the Tuatha lives on. I'd love to hear about the Cotter connection, my own people are mostly gone and I feel orphaned in the world..many second generation emigrees must feel this too. Historical research attained the existence of a Thomas Allen and Mary Allen with their son Tom, and two or three daughters, who resided in a Caravan, at Canal Side, Pye Bridge England from 1960-1963. My father Tom was born 05/05/1941; I have never met him or my family, and have nothing to picture them.
