The Blue Nuns are in fact ' The Little Company of Mary'
founded by Mother Mary Potter. The are widely known throughout Fermoy as
the Blue Nuns. They first came to Fermoy in 1902 at the invitation of the
Bishop, Dr.Robert Browne, where they opened their first House in St.James Place.
The foundation stone was laid in their Convent on Monument Hill in 1910, and
in July 1911 the Blue Nuns took up residence in the Convent built for them on
Monument Hill, at the side of the Parish Church of St.Patrick.
For over the hundred years that they have been in this Town, the sick and the
dying of the locality have had good reason to bless the name of Mother Mary
Potter, and all the sisters who have come and gone and those still with us,
fulfilling the vocation of the Little Company of Mary.
